Elm City ChamberFest was founded in 2005 in New Haven, CT (the “Elm City”). ECCF is an intensive two-week chamber music program for intermediate to advanced string students aged 8 to 18 and advanced piano students aged 14 to 18. Students focus on building core ensemble skills and enhancing their musical development throughout the two weeks. We are very excited about our new home in 2018 at historical Cheshire Academy, located in Cheshire, CT. Situated in a tranquil, New England town, not far from New Haven and Yale University, our students will be able to fully focus and work on building their chamber music skills as well as their sense of community, within the quiet confines of this beautiful setting.
Why chamber music? Of course, making new friends and playing chamber music together all day is much more fun than practicing on your own – nobody will argue with that! But what are the other advantages of playing chamber music? The proven benefits of individually mastering a musical instrument aside, let’s factor in the heightened verbal and aural communication skills, and learning to problem solve as a team that are developed by students when playing chamber music. When expertly instructed in a small group on a daily basis, students gain an invaluable tool that they will be able to take with them as they progress through life, in any capacity. Whether a student wishes to develop a lifelong career as a musician, a corporate executive or a renowned medical professional, the benefits from experiencing a superb chamber music education are infinite.
At Elm City ChamberFest, we take great pride in our goals of focusing on nurturing and strengthening both the musical as well as the personal growth of each individual student. Our team of experienced ECCF faculty and staff is highly skilled at working with students of all ages, at all levels of their musical and emotional development. No matter how much or how little experience our students have when they start their summer at ECCF, with a 5:1 student to faculty ratio, they are closely fostered into becoming better musicians and stronger communicators, and they gain lifelong friends who will also share their special musical gift with them for years to come.
