Viola and Cello Scholarships

One winner on each instrument will receive a $2000 scholarship applied to their tuition to attend Elm City ChamberFest from June 26th - July 9th, 2017. 

Eligibility Requirements:

Viola and cello students aged 14 – 18 who will have completed the 8th grade by June of 2017 are eligible to audition. Students must currently be enrolled in weekly private lessons and participate in a weekly ensemble program, either at school or with a professional coach or conductor.

 

Audition Requirements:

Please read the following list of audition requirements carefully.  Students that do not fulfill all of the repertoire requirements will not be considered.  Live auditions are strongly encouraged.  However, should it not be possible for you attend a live audition, please submit a recording via our Audition Dropbox no later than March 20, 2017.

 

Viola

One movement from the 6 Suites for Unaccompanied Viola by J.S Bach and one movement of a standard concerto.

For recorded auditions please note: an accompanist must be present for the concerto portion of your recording (a recording from a recent performance is acceptable).  Live auditioners do not need a pianist at the auditions. 

One major and one minor 3-octave scale of your choice.

Prepared excerpts (we will provide them for you - please contact us for copies):

  • Mozart Quartet in F major, K590 1st mvt (Allegro Moderato) rehearsal letter F to end of rehearsal letter G
  • Your Choice between D. Shostakovitch Quartet No. 1, 2nd mvt (Moderato); Beginning to end of #17 or J. Brahms Quartet No. 2 in a minor, 1st mvt (Allegro non troppo); 1 mm before Letter C to end of Letter D.

Cello

  • Dvorak Trio in e minor, op. 90 ("Dumky"); 4th mvt (Allegro) Beginning of mvt until key change (mm 50).

 Completed ECCF 2017 application form and $75 application fee.

 A letter of recommendation from your private instructor.

 A letter of recommendation from your current chamber music coach or conductor.

 

Scholarship applications along with all the other above information are due by February 28th, 2017. Returning ECCF students that are interested in applying via our Fast Track Application, all scholarship application materials are due by January 16, 2017. Applicants will not be considered (i.e. applications will not be processed) unless all of the above information has been received.
