Viola & Cello Scholarship

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, ECCF is pleased to award an ECCF Scholarship to one qualified viola and cello applicant. One winner on each instrument will receive a $2000 scholarship to attend Elm City ChamberFest in 2018. 

Eligibility Requirements:

Viola and cello students aged 14 – 18 who will have completed the 8th grade by June of 2018 are eligible to audition. Students must currently be enrolled in weekly private lessons and participate in a weekly ensemble program, either at school or with a professional coach or conductor.

Audition Requirements:

Please read the following list of audition requirements carefully.  Students that do not fulfill all of the repertoire requirements will not be considered.  Live auditions are strongly encouraged.  However, should it not be possible for you attend a live audition, please submit a recording via our Audition Dropbox.

Viola

Viola Scholarship audition requirements:

  • One major and one minor 3 octave scale of your choice
  • One movement from 6 Suites for Unaccompanied Viola by JS Bach
  • One movement of a standard concerto (recorded auditions – an accompanist must be present for this. A recent recital or performance recording is acceptable).
  • Prepared excerpts (see pdf)
  1. Mozart K 590 1st mvt (Allegro Moderato) F to end of letter G
  2. Mozart K 590 4th mvt (Allegro) beginning up to fermata in mm. 42
  3. Dvorak “American” quartet, op. 96 opening to number 1

Cello

Cello Scholarship audition requirements:

  • One major and one minor 4-octave scale of your choice
  • One movement from the 6 Suites for Unaccompanied Cello by JS Bach
  • One movement of a standard concerto (recorded auditions: an accompanist must be present for this – a recent recital or performance recording is acceptable).
  • Prepared excerpts (see pdf)
  1. Beethoven Op. 59 #1, 2nd movement (mm.118 to G.P.)
  2. Mozart K. 575 4th mvt (opening to letter L).

Please note: applicants will not be considered unless all materials are submitted

Live auditioners: in addition to your prepared pieces, you will be asked to do some sight-reading. 

Live auditions are strongly encouraged. Audition dates, times, and locations are listed on the Apply! page. In the event that you cannot attend a live audition, please submit a recording via our Audition Dropbox.

Please fill out our online application here.  Your online application will include the following steps: 

  • Completed ECCF 2018 application form and $75 application fee.
  • A letter of recommendation from your private instructor.
  • A letter of recommendation from your current chamber music coach or conductor.

Scholarship applications along with all the other above information are due by February 28, 2018. Applicants will not be considered (i.e. applications will not be processed) unless all of the above information has been received.
